This small statuette represents another variant of the iconography of Venus Anadyomene, the goddess emerging from the waters after a bath. It was found in the tablinum of the House of Oppius Gratus and Quartilla in Pompeii. It dates to Ist century AD. Depicted in the classic gesture of wringing out her hair, the goddess is completely naked and rests her left side against a tree trunk, on which her cloak is draped. In front of her, a bearded satyr, very similar to the one in the Venus in a bikini, forms part of the decoration of the trunk.

Research activity
- Research Activity Type
- Object Examination/Scientific analysis
- Technique
- X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
- Technique Category
- Point analysis
- Method Description
-
This analytical technique permits the determination of an element's composition in a material through the observation of characteristic secondary X-rays (or fluorescent) emission. This phenomenon occurs when a material is excited by primary X-rays. The technique is particularly valuable in the field of Cultural Heritage, where it can be employed for the analysis and characterization of a diverse range of materials, including paintings, manuscripts, monuments, metals, and others.
