-
Archaistic statue of Isis from the northeast corner of the portico of the Temple of Isis, in Pompeii (VIII - 7, 28). The goddess is depicted in an archaic style and likely dates to the Claudian period. Clear references to the Archaic Greek period can be seen, as the style of the representation echoes the posture of a kore. The hairstyle, held in place at the temples by an archaizing crown, is also a clear citation of that era. She wears a large necklace with geometric patterns and a dress of veils that clings to the body, revealing the breasts in their entirety. She holds her right hand raised, which probably once held a sistrum, while her left hand, resting along her side, supports an ankh, the quintessential symbol of the Goddess. A dedication found on the pillar connects the statue to Lucius Caecilius Faebus.

- Method Description
-
Portable microscope to acquire high magnification images. Observation at high magnification allows us to document the presence of residual polychromy, to examine the morphology and to extrapolate information about the stratigraphic sequence and the presence of complex mixtures or repainting
