THE "SCREAM" BY EDVARD MUNCH - SAME MOTIF, DIFFERENT COLOURS, DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES AND APPROACHES – A NOVEL NON-INVASIVE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TWO OF ITS VERSIONS

Abstract (English)
The MOLAB access was granted in 2017 through the Iperion CH platform, for the study of six versions of "Scream" from MUNCH museum collection in Oslo.
Two of the analytical techniques used (macro-XRF and XRD) for this purpose, were also applied on the version from The National Museum. Thus the comparative study of the two versions of the Scream (NaM, 1893 and MUNCH, 1910?) benefited also of this non-invasive approach.
This research and access project made use of novel surface elemental scanning and imaging techniques such as macro-XRF, hyperspectral VIS and NIR image acquisition and other complementary non-invasive tools (UV-Vis fluorescence, XRD, Raman and fiber optics FTIR spectroscopies). The results summarized in this paper show this completely non-invasive approach carried out on these objects.
