Method Description

Photogrammetry is based on triangulation. By taking photographs from different locations, lines of sight can be developed from each camera to points on the object that is being captured. These lines of sight are mathematically intersected to produce reliable 3-dimensional coordinates (measurements) of the points of interest on the object.

Examination Methodology

The object was mounted on a mannequin, placed in a photographic studio and lit several with continuous halogen lights that remained in the same position throughout the capture process. The lighting was kept soft and non-directional to avoid harsh shadows on object. A Sony Alpha 7 IV alongside a Sony 50mm f1.4 lens was used during capture, ensuring a >60% overlap between images in both x and y direction. The focus was set and not changed throughout the capture process. White balance was carried out using a Calibrite ColourChecker Classic.
